There’s a MAP for that! Exploring the FCC Map, State Maps & Efforts to Close the Digital Divide
In November of 2022 the FCC debuted its first iteration of the National Broadband Map, displaying information about the internet services available to individual locations across the country as reported by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the FCC’s ongoing Broadband Data Collection. Through continuous updates, the map aims to help identify the unserved and underserved communities most in need of funding for high-speed internet infrastructure investment using FCC verification efforts, data from internet providers and public crowdsourcing. This eNATOA will not only explore the FCC’s efforts to close the digital divide using “Fabric,” the first ever national dataset that is a product of integrating multiple data sources for each state and territory but will also discuss state broadband maps and the role they play in complementing or contending with the FCC map.
