Hastings Community TV is seeking the next Executive Director to lead and work alongside the station’s small staff and active volunteers to serve the community of Hastings, MN through a variety of video productions. These productions include government meetings, community events, local news, local sports, promotional videos, PSAs and other original programs and series (see links to samples of productions below). This is an exciting, low stress opportunity with great pay and a flexible schedule. It also involves a wide range of tasks in video production and administrative work so no two days are the same. The Executive Director is also given ample creative freedom and resources to execute a vision you develop with the staff and Board ofDirectors. So to sum it up, it’s a pretty good gig that’s a rare find in tv or film.

About HCTV & Our Resources

We are a non profit 501(c)3 corporation formed in March of 1986 that is responsible for the 3 PEG channels for the City of Hastings (Ch14, 15 and 16). We also have twochannels simulcast in HD - 14 Community TV on 799 and 15 Government TV on 859. Ch 16 is currently utilized as the community bulletin board channel. We just did major HD equipment upgrades for our recording system at City Hall that includes a Ross Lightning switcher. We also upgraded our master control and Tightrope playback system at the station located in Hastings High School. Both projects were completed by Alpha Video within the last few months. We have a small staff of seven that includes three full timers (including E.D.) and four part time staff. The two other full time staff are the Technical Director and Executive Producer. Current part time staff include a Meetings Producer, Graphics Designer, Summer Intern, and a Camera Operator. Staff use Sony FS5 HD cameras to film most productions. We also use iPhone 8s along with Sling Studio and Switcher Studio systems to film remote live productions. Back at base staff use 27” iMacs with either FinalCut X or Adobe Premiere to edit footage, dependent on their preference. We also have a 900 sq/ft studio for in house productions. As for our source of revenue, we receive funds through the City of Hastings based on a franchise agreement with Comcast. The current agreement in place was signed September 2017 and has a ten year term. We currently do not sell advertising nor do any fundraising. Finally, staff and volunteer’s work can be recognized through annual awards given by NATOA and Midwest Regional Emmys.

Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt

Compensation: Annual Salary Range $65,000-$75,000 DOE&Q

Work Schedule: Flexible schedule kept to an average 40 hour work week

Requirements for Candidates:

At least four years of experience in paid video production work

At least two years of supervisory experience

At least a four year college degree is preferred but not an absolute requirement

Areas of Responsibility

Report to Board of Directors

Meet with the Board of Directors on a quarterly basis to provide financials and report on productions, staff, equipment, industry news and other items of interest to the board. Then act on any guidance or tasks as assigned by the Board.

Staff Management

Manage the staff of HCTV to include hiring/termination, training, scheduling, documentation, reviewing time sheets, production assignments, submitting bimonthly payroll to 3rd party payroll processor, lead monthly staff meetings and conduct annual reviews.

Program/Production Management

Track community events, meetings and games and coordinate the filming and broadcasting of such events with available staff and volunteers. Oversees the programming of productions on HCTV channels. Also reviews selected productions and provide constructive feedback to staff. Works with all staff to attain goal of highest quality production possible given time and resources available.

Financial Management

Manages all financial duties for the station including developing an annual budget, paying the bills, recording all account transactions in registers and balancing each month, inputting all transactions in QuickBooks, submitting registers, statements and QuickBooks file to accountant each quarter and reviewing the resulting compilation and 990 prior to submitting it to the Treasurer and Board of directors for their review.

Social Media & Website Manager

Acts as the moderator or “voice” for HCTV on social media platforms (currently Facebook and Twitter) to promote community events, HCTV productions or to post news items of interest to the community. Also maintains the station’s website content and functionality. If delegated the E.D. trains other staff or volunteers in doing so and monitors communications.

News Director & Reporter

Primary photojournalist/reporter that covers local news through HCTV’s social media and channels. If delegated the E.D. trains and supervises other staff or volunteers in doing so. Hastings Community Outreach Is actively connected with the Hastings community through local networking events and organizations such as the Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce. Also is primary contact and representative of HCTV when one is required.

Cable TV Community Outreach

Is actively connected with state and national organizations (MACTA and NATOA) for community tv stations by maintaining memberships and participation in selected events and conferences. Again is primary contact and representative of HCTV when one is required.

Production Assistant

Assists other staff with productions as needed such as operating a camera, setting up or directing a multi-camera production, or other tasks that may need fulfilled, PLUS Other Tasks, Projects, Areas of Responsibilities as Assigned by the Board of Directors.

- Selected candidates will be invited to in person interviews in early July at the station in Hastings.
